Throughout my life, I've nurtured a profound passion for artistic expression. Upon my return to college in 2016 to complete my Associates degree, I pivoted towards a more focused academic pursuit, obtaining an AAA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Pre-Art Therapy. This educational journey not only broadened my understanding of diverse artistic techniques but also initiated my exploration into psychological principles and therapeutic art modalities.
Following my graduation, I embarked on a transformative academic endeavor at Virginia Wesleyan University, culminating in the attainment of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, complemented by a minor in Women and Gender Studies. This multidisciplinary curriculum provided me with a comprehensive comprehension of feminist theory, intersectionality, and psychological paradigms, fostering a profound personal and intellectual growth.
My internship experience at Samaritan House served as a catalyst for introspection, prompting a realization that my professional aspirations diverged from traditional therapeutic roles. Motivated by a desire to effect change in alternative capacities, I channeled my efforts into community volunteering and mutual aid initiatives.
Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I made a conscious decision to reconnect with my artistic roots. Recognizing the transformative power of art in my life, I pursued a Master's degree in Humanities at Old Dominion University. This interdisciplinary program afforded me the flexibility to integrate my diverse interests, encompassing art therapy, technology, entrepreneurship, education, literature, philosophy, and theoretical frameworks. Supplementing this academic pursuit with a graduate certificate in Women's Studies enriched my understanding of feminist literature, intersectionality, and societal constructs.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the significance of human connection, prompting me to leverage my artistic expertise to facilitate meaningful interactions. Grounded in mindfulness practices such as deep breathing and symbolic expression, my approach to art fosters relaxation and introspection, emphasizing the journey rather than the final outcome.
I offer my services as a complementary alternative to traditional therapy, providing clients with personalized art journaling experiences and facilitating group sessions tailored to their objectives. From online group therapy sessions to team-building workshops and intergenerational engagements, my diverse portfolio underscores my commitment to fostering connectivity and well-being.
I am eager to address any inquiries you may have and am enthusiastic about the prospect of collaborating with you in the future.
